This is a large fruit bowl that is 17.5″ in diameter & 5.5″ in height. It is turned from Myrtle Burl which grows in the Pacific regions of California and Oregon. The tree is moderate in size growing to approximately 40-70 feet high. The wood is generally very highly figured and the burl is due to infection or injury, but after removal the tree is healthier. The burl lumber is often found with cracks and voids, however most of these when incorporated into the finished bowl create an even more unique turned item. On this bowl there is an additional fill of blue powder added to tiny holes or open areas to further enhance the previously damaged areas.
