This Grecian Style Pot is 8-5/8″ x 7-7/8″ and turned from a piece of Salt Cedar (Tamarisk) wood from South Texas area. The turning included sealing both sides of the huge crack in the wood & then hollowing out the center – walls are approx. 1/4″ thick. It is native to the Mediterranean area and central Asia. The tree is small at approximately 20-25 feet high, but can occasionally be found reaching 50 feet. It is extremely invasive & in many places, including the panhandle of Texas, there are on-going eradication efforts as the Salt Cedar will starve out other trees and vegetation because it pulls in such huge quantities of water. Called “the tree of life” it was planted by Abraham in Beersheba.
